Working together with Latitude Architects, UELA were commissioned by the School to design the landscape components surrounding the newly constructed Canteen Building. The brief was to design a robust landscape able to cope with the rigors of teenage boys. The centre piece of the courtyard is an existing mature Schinus molle (Peppercorn). To retain and protect this tree, the landscape design took a thoughtful and considered approach through the provision of a suitable permeable area, allowing for water to be available to the trees root system. Shade was also a consideration in the arrangement of seating areas. A mix of shade tolerant and robust plants were chosen, including Pyrus calleryana (Ornamental Pear), Clivia miniata (Kaffir Lily), Escallonia ‘Pink Pixie’ (Dwarf Escallonia), Murraya paniculata (Orange Jessamine) and Rhagodia spinescens (Hedge Saltbush).
